Hello MAST Members,

Please see the following message for a vacation opportunity this spring.

Hi All MAST Sailors

I'm trying to get a Charter flotilla trip together of MAST sailors. If you're interested, you will need to organize your own boat and crew, but if we do it as a group of 5 boats we can get a group 10% discount on the all boats. I think it would be a lot of fun to get a group of us MAST sailors together in islands. It whould also be a great way to get you feet wet if you're a first time charterer with the safety of a group of us for guidance.

The dates I'm targeting are April 21st through the 28th. Destination would be the BVI (British Virgin Islands). The plan would be to get onboard during the day on Saturday the 21st and then drop the boat off on Friday the 27th.

I realize April is a bit later than some would like, but the reason for the late date is four-fold.

- The rates for the boats drop off substantially because it is considered a low-season rate.

- Because it's a low-season, the anchorages should be less crowded so it will be easier to find a good spot in the often crowded harbors.

- The trade winds tend to slow down a bit in April down there, which is actually a good thing because the consistent 15 to 25 mph Trade Winds can get be to be a bit tiring for vacation sailing.

- April in Milwaukee is usually disappointing weather-wise and it's a good way to get into summer mode so you'll be ready to get into your own boat work when you return.

I have made arrangements with Barbara Daetwyler at Sunsail/Moorings so that anyone interested can call her for details. They can mix between either of their fleets (The Moorings or Sunsail - both owned by the same company) and still consider it as one group. Sunsail tends to specialize in monohulls while The Moorings has more Catamarans. If you're interested take a look at either, or both of their sites, and try to get an idea of what size and type of boat will work for your crew. Then give their reservation line a call and ask for Barbara in "Group" sales.

As for getting down there, it's cheaper to fly into St Thomas and then take a ferry over to Tortola. Flying directly into the BVIs can get expensive and the short ferry ride is fun. It often works well to get in the day before and catch a hotel in St Thomas for the evening, then catch the ferry in the morning for the ride to Road Town, Tortola, BVI.

If you are interested, please send me an email or call as I'll want to keep track of the number of interested parties. I'm also happy to answer any questions.
